The Virginia Film Office announced that Virginia has been selected

The Virginia Film Office announced that Virginia has been selected as one of locations for the feature film ?Cold Mountain? The film is a co-production between Miramax and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and is produced by Academy Award winner Sydney Pollack and William Horberg (Mirage Productions) and Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Bona Fide Productions). ?Cold Mountain? was adapted and is directed by Academy AwardŽ winner Anthony Minghella, based on Charles Frazier?s best-selling and National Book Award winning Civil War novel of the same name. The cast of ?Cold Mountain? includes Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Brendan Gleeson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Giovanni Ribisi, Donald Sutherland, Ray Winstone, Kathy Baker, James Gammon, Charlie Hunnam, Jena Malone and Ethan Suplee. ?Cold Mountain? tells the story of Inman (Law), a wounded confederate soldier who is on a perilous journey home to his mountain community, hoping to reunite with his pre-war sweetheart, Ada (Kidman). In his absence, Ada struggles to survive and revive her father?s farm with the help of intrepid young drifter Ruby (Zellweger). Although the majority of the film will be filmed in the remote mountains and valleys of Transylania, Romania to recreate a primitive and unforgiving landscape, several important scenes will be shot in Richmond and Williamsburg, including a scene in which Inman (Law) leaves the hospital to begin his long journey home. Numerous Virginians have been hired to work on the film.
